Scope and Contents
The Science and Engineering Building provides about 110,000 assignable square feet within a total area of 234,000 gross square feet, for research laboratories, laboratory support, teaching laboratories and offices for the natural sciences and engineering divisions. The building also includes administrative office space for the divisional deans. The building consists of two three-story bars organized in plan to form an L shape. A partial basement beneath the intersection of the bars, will house the campus vivarium and a mechanical space in the roof will house the buildings mechanical equipment. Class laboratories and support spaces are all located on the ground floor. The second and third floors contain the research laboratories and support space, as well as faculty and administrative offices. The bars of the building with the greatest solar exposure are shaded with a three-story-high screened circulation area.
